Homicide Victim ID'd Following Shooting Outside Recovery House Of Worship York

A 34-year-old man found shot dead in York has been identified by the county coroner.

Demetres Shamel Lewis of the 1000 block of Edison Street in York was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the 100 block of South Belvidere Street in York City on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 12:33 a.m. by Chief Deputy Coroner Tania Zech, according to a release the following evening. 

This is directly outside of Recovery House of Worship York which helps people with addiction issues recover from "drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, food, hoarding, religion, work, even love addiction," according to the organization's website

York City police had been called to the area for a report of shots fired when they found an unresponsive man with apparent gunshot wounds according to a release by the department on Wednesday morning.

The man "was given medical aid but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries," the police say.

Detectives continue to investigate.
